β€œIn every out thrust headland, in every curving beach, in every grain of sand there is the story of the earth.”
― Rachel Carson-

It’s taken me the longest time in the history of being a ‘photographer’ to upload these photos. Two whole days! They were taken on Monday after we ventured out for some storm shots. However since then I have been in such agony with a poorly tooth that I haven’t been able to concentrate on much. After an even more agonizing visit to the dentist yesterday afternoon, I’m back on track – almost!

We decided to be brave and head to the coast on Monday, where the wind was still battering the beaches. Lepe is a beautiful part of the South Coast and is the shortest distance between the mainland and the Isle of Wight. It was -very- windy. But worth it!

Much of the coastal road was flooded too which added to the experience, as did trying to eat a few chips whilst walking along. Once the seagulls started circling we abandoned that idea and headed for the safety of the car. Afterwards though, a walk along the beach brought some great views with it.

As did trekking home the long way through the New Forest. Trees were down, roads were closed and there was a fair bit of flooding both within the forest and on the roads through. After a few impromptu turnarounds we did a full circle back towards Lepe and got an amazing view of Fawley Power Station with a rainbow framing it nicely. (Photos probably don’t do it justice!)

“Batten down the hatches” – Michael Fish

The wind was incredibly loud around three am this morning continuing until about six am – windows banged shut, blinds banged but other than that there was really nothing much else to worry about. The rest of the South isn’t so lucky with reports that two people have been killed, one boy missing having been swept out to sea yesterday afternoon.

Nevertheless we ventured out with the camera to see what we could snap – and although there wasn’t much, there were a few landscape altering changes where trees had fallen day. It’s a shame I don’t have a before photograph – but a huge beautiful tree has come down just down the road altering the landscape completely. Closer to home, at the bottom of the road there are several fallen trees, but nothing much more.

The roads are littered with leaves, rubbish, sticks and other debris – which of course will make it trickier if more rain comes as the drains are already blocked. But luckily we’ve even escaped that despite hours of rain hammering down last night.

Of course, we had to venture to the Bunnies, where earlier this year I got some storm photos, just to check.. But all was fairly calm…
