“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
― Theodore Roosevelt

Before I move on to today’s photos I wanted to share a really important cause with you. A friend from my college days is cycling unaided and alone from Lands End to John o’Groats – that’s the length of the UK. He’s doing it for a fantastic cause – to raise money for a Hampshire based Charity called Naomi House. The Charity provides respite and care to families who have a sick child, keeping them together for as long as possible and in many cases – making those last few days comfortable. Mark’s niece sadly died shortly after she was born in 2008 – and she is the drive behind the campaign to raise money for Naomi House, who cared for her. Please if nothing else, check out the video and pass it on. Mark is not only looking for donations to Naomi House – if you can spare something then great, but what he really needs is the word to be spread about his epic journey, so that people can support him along the way. It’s a huge challenge!

Today I visited The Yankee Candle Shop. We are hugely lucky to have one! A whole shop donated to those fantastic varied scents – heaven. My friend and I spent a while browsing, and avoiding spending too much money. It’s not difficult to do in there. Luckily I had some vouchers saved and ended up with a bag full of bits and a purse that was only 80pence lighter. Amazing!

Whilst I’ve blogged candles before, I’ve not really delved into the Yankee Candle world despite having had them for years so here we go! I got a beautiful oil burner for my birthday that takes the Yankee Candle Tarts a much cheaper way of enjoying the smells to be honest, you can buy so much more for your money instead of one big tumblr that is gorgeous but gets a bit samey after a while!

Someone once gave me some of the above tarts as a gift. Some years ago – I remember being incredibly frustrated that I couldn’t find a wick. I was even tempted to go back to the shop! Luckily I googled and saved face, but it was close.

As well as the scents of many Yankee Candles, I also love the smell of Cinnamon. Hate the taste – but the smell is just home and Christmas all rolled into one. Heaven again! So I photographed some Cinnamon sticks too – just for the sake of it! Happy Weekend!

“A woman’s perfume tells more about her than her handwriting. ”
― Christian Dior

I’m not sure the above quote is entirely true. I mean if you smelt my perfume you wouldn’t know that I’m a photographer. But if you looked in my handbag and saw the spare batteries, lens caps and cleaning cloths then you’d figure it out straight away! Either that or I’m a hoarder who collects strange things…

I treated myself to some perfume yesterday. I don’t think I have every bought myself perfume. I think it’s always been a Christmas time thing from family members. But yesterday when I went shopping with my friends we spent some time sniffing out the perfume aisle in Boots and I must have tested loads before suddenly I stumbled across the most perfect scent.

It was summer, long drinks, holidays and warmth all rolled into one little (very expensive) bottle. I was addicted. So was one of my friends. We both bought a bottle! It was whilst listening to the gale force winds battering my windows last night and despairing of another day of washed out photography that I had the idea of what I could photograph. Perfume!

I own four bottles of perfume – three are branded and one, which is my favourite – was $6. I bought it in the USA a few years ago and it has lasted! I’m not the sort of person who goes in for brands – in fact the perfume is probably the only branded thing that I own. It’s worth the cost…

So I made use of a rain covered window again today to get my background. Natural lighting, a wooden box propped up on a couple of books for the stage to raise the bottles above the line of the window sill et voila. Job done!  Rather pleased with the effect in the end actually! So there we have it – I’m a mix of Poeme by Lancome, Princess by Vera Wang, Daisy by Marc Jacobs & $6 Japanese Cherry Blossom. Not all at once. What’s your flavour?
