“We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched.

Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives…not looking for flaws, but for potential.”

― Ellen Goodman

So here we are again. Day One. This time last year I was triumphantly finishing up the challenge of taking a photograph a day, revelling in my new found free time. It seems I don’t miss it that much… To start off the 1st of January 2014, I have selected probably the most longest quote possible. But you know what, it rings very true.

This time on the 1st January 2012, there were just three or four of you following this blog. (Hi Mum!) Now, whether you read this or not it’s landing in the ‘feeds’ or email inbox’s of over 1,000 people. I hope that as I progress through 2014 and bombard you with photographs of Buddy (the dog), sunsets and food amongst other things – I hope that I don’t disappoint.

I’m excited to be starting this again, even more so because I have at least four brides and grooms to photograph on four different days this year. I have a family photoshoot in the near future and I’m sure people will be throwing babies and pets my way. In between all of that, I aim to have a little bit of fun and photograph the obscure, the ordinary and the forgotten. For day one, I wanted impact. I wanted to give you rolling hills, famous landmarks, fantastic weather, fresh new starts…Instead, we hit a flood in the road and had to turn back, dejectedly!

However all was not completely lost. With more ventures into the hills we found a few more landscapes, puddles and fallen trees. Pheasants and other birds were also found but not a person in sight. It was deathly quiet. Somewhat nice too!

So for this journey into 2014, and for those that are interested, I will mostly be taking my Photographs with an iphone (for the off days), a Sony D-SLR A57 and a Sony Cybershot (point and shoot). Oh yes and hopefully a GoPro and quadcopter, if  I’m allowed ;)

“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.”
~Marcus Tullius Cicero

At the weekend, I felt in the mood for grabbing a bit of photography time here and there. You’ve already seen the cake and autumn leaves! With work busy and other things taking up time, Photography has had to have a bit of a backseat lately but I’m determined not to let Autumn flash by before I can capture it properly.

So with William creating the fake rain with the best photography prop ever – a water bottle – and Buddy taking a safe distance because he didn’t trust us, we captured a few images here and there – the beginnings of Autumn really!

The next few weeks will hopefully provide an opportunity for more shots – and better Autumnal weather. On Sunday humidity was at 80% and the temperature hit a high of twenty three degrees C! Completely not right for this time of year..!
