“The Sun can be your greatest gloom, or your greatest comforter, depending on how you view its shine.”
― Anthony Liccione

Just a few sunsets and rolling hills taken yesterday evening at Gallows Down after a last minute decision was made to take Buddy for a bitingly cold walk!

It was quite beautiful. Cold enough to almost freeze your ears off, but brilliantly clear with rolling clouds and mist coming in across the downs. Rain clouds, but in the far distance – just far enough away not to bother us!

Gallows Down is popular for Hang-gliding but also because of the ‘Gallows’ that still stand on the hill. It was erected in 1676 for the purposes of executing just two people. George Broomham and Dorothy Newman. They were having an affair and murdered George’s wife and their son Robert. The affair, coincidentally, was conducted on the Downs. The Gibbet now standing is a replica and was left there as a deterrent (in ancient times) and maybe modern ones too!2 3
