To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring–it was peace.”

Buddy has been the topic of many blog entries across the past eleven months, and just occasionally, the old girl Star has managed to get her face published too. This time though, the blog entry is all about her – and the fact that she has run out of Barks.

This time last year, we were facing the very real prospect of Star dying from Kidney failure. She was completely happy, her tail still didn’t stop wagging but she simply stopped eating and drinking, and started being sick. Luckily the vet acted quickly and after a night of Dialysis, she came back to us as good as new. We didn’t expect her to be around now, but she has hung on tightly to life and mentored Buddy through the process of becoming a grown up dog.

But within the past two weeks or so, her bark has got quieter and quieter and we realised that she’d almost lost it completely when she was stood outside one evening, waiting at the door to come in – and we no longer heard her woof.

This calls for desperate action, because Buddy is still a pup at heart, and the only way to make him Woof is to bark at him first – down the tube of a roll of wrapping paper. He won’t do it on command otherwise. So really, both of our dogs are in dire need of getting some woof back into their lives.

This is where you come in – in particular all those dog lovers out there. I want you to send us your Barks! It’s quite easy, all you need to do is send a short video or voice clip of your dog barking – or even a picture of your dog mid-bark – to kathrynphotography@live.co.uk. You could also tell your friends, spread the word around and make this as huge as possible so that when we come to putting all the material together into a presentable youtube video – we have barks of all kinds, from all sorts of dogs, from across the world! If that’s not enough to convince you with Star’s photos from today, then take a look at her in her heyday…
